Treasures so grand yet so temporal

Grasp on tightly to the heart

Here today and gone tomorrow

Stolen by thieves, broken apart

Treasure so beautiful and alluring

They find their way to number one

Where they are the heart is also

Taking the place of the Holy Son

Treasures shine and bring delight

Yet fail us after all

When we collect them for ourselves

They become our pitfall

Treasures held in open hands

Create a blessing in our day

Receiving gifts from above

As we echo come what may

Treasures may grip our hearts

But as we surrender each day

We guard our first place

For the only Yahweh.

“Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. Matthew 6:19-21
