There are a few things that I dread doing in life. One of them is to moisturize my skin. I know that might sound ridiculous to some people. Good friends of mine love the feeling of hydrating their skin with body lotion after a hot shower. I for one see it as a grueling task that hovers over me until it is completed.
Although I do not moisturize every day, when I do, I never once regret it. Isn't that just the same as anything good for us in life? I have never said, "I wish I skipped that work out" or "That Bible reading was a waste of time." The truth is I don't always feel like exercising and I certainly do not always feel like sitting down and being still to read God's Word. But aren't those seemingly menial decisions the ones that make the greatest impact in the long run? Just as my health improves and my spirit grows strong, the same is true of moisturizing.
We may not always feel like taking the time and effort for chores that seem unimportant, but oftentimes those clean kitchens, mowed lawns, completed homework assignments, and yes even moisturized skin can be such a blessing to us in return. God has gems awaiting us every day, even within the tasks we wish were non-existent. He is ever-present and always working for our good and His glory.
And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who[a]have been called according to his purpose. Romans 8:28 NIV
